REMEDY UChicago is back again. We are in the process of fundraising for our return trip to the Dominican Republic. We hope to exceed last years goals and raise over $50,000 for medical supplies and medicines for underserved clinics in the Dominican Republic. We will be updating the website soon, but in the mean time could use your help through donations. Please click above!

REMEDY Dominican Republic is proud to announce its successful return from Santo Domingo. We were able to bring 41 boxes of nearly 2000 pounds of purchased and donated medical supplies. The medicine was distributed to urban and rural clinics in Santo Domingo, villages surrounding Bani, and to a Batey in Barahona. The entire group returned with an unforgettable experience. Several students were able to assist in surgeries, administer shots, and shadow Dominican medical students and physicians. The group was
divided into rural and urban groups, but each student gained valuable experience on the trip. The entire country appeared to embrace our arrival and we hope to ship our remaining supplies to our new friends in the very near future. Please enjoy the slideshow with some photos from our trip.
We would like to thank all of our sponsors and donors who made the trip possible. While the trip is completed, we will continue to work to deliver
more medical supplies to the needy clinics in the Dominican Republic. Thank you.

Remedy has been working extremely hard over the past few weeks to secure
medical supplies for our adopted clinics. We have received a shipment of
medical supplies from "Supplies Over Seas" and await invoices and shipment
from different organizations such as Americares, PAR Pharmaceuticals, MAP
International, Project Hope, Johnson & Johnson, Interchurch Medical
Assistance, MedPharm, and Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals. We are also
receiving useful donations from the University of Chicago Hospitals and its
physicians. In total, we estimate that our donations will be able to treat
around 10,000 individuals in the DR so far.
In addition, we are finalizing our itinerary, which includes volunteering
at urban and rural clinics. The group is very excited to tour Santo Domingo
and gain a greater sense of the issues in the Dominican Republic. Dr.
Geppert, a physician who has traveled with previous Remedy groups, will be
accompanying us to provide both medical Spanish translations and guidance.
Finally, with under a month before our trip, the group has completed all
passport and immunization requirements for the trip. We continue to need
your support, so thank you!

REMEDY is very fortunate to receive a donation from attorneys and staff from Holland & Knight LLP, a firm based in Miami, Florida. On St. Patrick's Day the law firm held a "casual day" to benefit our medical trip to the Dominican Republic. Thanks to them and all the generous donors!
On Wednesday, April 5th, REMEDY will be hosting a lunch and film screening for medical students to bring awareness of international health. Food will be provided by Calypso Cafe, and there will be a slide show presentation of pictures from our fundraisers and from the Dominican Republic.

We are very fortunate to have the Pi Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. aid us in fundraising this year. This Yale University Chapter donated all proceeds from a recent event to REMEDY. The donation will go a long way in obtaining the needed medical supplies. REMEDY also received permission to continue with a T-shirt fundraiser during the spring quarter. In addition, plans have been finalized to have a film screening of "Motorcycle Diaries" with food provided by Calypso Café. We are extremely
encouraged by all the responses we have been receiving from around the world!

REMEDY had another successful fundraiser last Friday night. Over one hundred graduate students showed up to see our Date Auction. Everyone had a great time and we raised over 2,000 dollars while organizing it. Over the next few weeks we hope to put together another Bulls' game fundraiser and begin contacting companies that will be selling us antibiotics and medical supplies.
02.15.06
This week our group was honored to have Dr. Brito, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Medicine, speak to us. He concentrates his work on infectious diseases, and discussed with us the culture
and health care of the Dominican Republic.
A wealth of knowledge, Dr. Brito answered our questions and offered us his contacts in Santo Domingo and the neighboring rural clinics. We hope to work with him in the coming months to focus our efforts on particular hospitals and
communities that will most benefit from our medical supplies
and trip.

The Faculty Auction was a huge success. We raised over $3900 dollars as over forty professors volunteered to take willing students out for dinner and other activities. Click here to see pictures (they'll load in the slide show to the left). The event started bright and early at 8am and lasted until 7pm in the hospital student lounge. Many medical students of all different years showed up to bid on some very prestigious faculty members. Thank you to everyone for making this a success.

Faculty Auction will be held February 10th in BSLC on the University of
Chicago campus. Over forty professors and physicians have volunteered to
take students on such outings as a White Sox game, brunch, dinner, sailing,
billiards hall, and many other fun activities. The list is very
distinguished, so please remember to place your bids next Friday.
We are
also auctioning donated Chicago Blackhawk tickets and autographed items
donated by the University of Illinois Athletic Department. Food will be
provided and all faculty members are invited to the Student Lounge in the
Hospital as a finale to the auction during Social Rounds.
More great news! The Provost Office has awarded REMEDY $5,000 for the trip to the
Dominican Republic. The Center for Latin American Studies has also donated
$300, bringing our grant totals to $10,300! Thank you to everyone for your
support.

Our last fundraiser, Speed-dating for Graduate Students, was a huge success on campus. Click here to see pictures (they'll load in the slide show to the left). We raised more than $2,000 for the program.
We were also granted $5,000 from the Community Health Committee at the University of Chicago. This money is solely used to purchase and ship medical supplies to the Dominican Republic. Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 and bring $125,000 worth of medical supplies in June. Because we are a non-profit organization, pharmaceutical companies offer us discounted prices for essential medicines that we plan to bring. However, we remain short of our goal with several other fundraisers planned.
02.01.06
Hello and thank you for visiting our new website! We are in the midst of exciting fundraising so that we may bring excellent and much-needed medical supplies to the Dominican Republic this June. Please venture around the site to learn more about our organization.
We consist of twenty medical students from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. We also selected two undergrads from the University of Chicago to serve as translators for some of the members without a fluent Spanish background. These undergrads are medical school prospects, and we hope to provide them with an amazing experience.
All the members will be volunteering at clinics and hospitals while in the Dominican Republic. We hope to see and put our donated medicines in action, as well as provide whatever aid we can to our adopted community. This is a thrilling experience for all the medical students involved, and we appreciate all the support for making this possible. Thanks again for visiting!
